Usually, I choose my dream guides but in this instance, Jak chose me: I asked Riku if I needed a third one, and he was like 'nah'.īut then how exactly does Jak come into the picture?įirstly, Jak is considered to be a special circumstance. Riku's reply to me, mentally, was that a third dream guide wasn't necessary, and that the other KH Guardians would step in when times were really tough on my end. I literally wrote a letter to Riku, in my diary, and asked him, "do you think I need a third dream guide?". Then towards the end of 2021, it felt like 'the universe' was going out of control, so to keep me and my values safe, I thought I should have a third dream guide. In 2021, the world was starting to get a bit more bonkers and I felt I needed extra help, so Terra (KH) stepped up. Usually, I only have 1 main dream guide at a time and since late May 2020, that has been Riku (Kingdom Hearts (KH)). Now to how Jak exactly became a dream guide, and the lore leading up to that: Think of the relationship of Ventus and Chirithy. So in a sense, they are a more material form of a guardian angel for me. These really special and powerful characters, under my rules, are situated above our Earthen Plane, but just below the Divine Plane. To begin with, the technically correct term is a 'tulpa', but then some of my dream entities, such as Jak now, are more than that, hence why I like to call them dream guides. This is actually a really fun gimmick and the level design takes full advantage of it. All of which is pretty useful in taking out enemies but more importantly, the spray gun can be used as a makeshift booster, allowing Daxter to hover in the air. Later on you get a spray gun that allows you to spray a stun poison, fire and peacemaker esc energy. Daxter swings it in a manner that allows you to hit multiple enemies and you can string attacks together if they are close enough.

In regards to offensive abilities, at the start of the game all you have is a bug zapper which is a pretty effective weapon. He’s responsive to button inputs, his play control is good and though he’s missing some of Jak’s moves like the high jump and long jump, Daxter has a few unique moves of his own such as crawling through small gaps and climbing on certain walls.

It’s a shame they never ported it to the PS2 because it would have been right at home there.įor one, Daxter controls very well. This is just a really well put together game. I don’t recall there ever being any slow down and apart from some pop in, I didn’t notice any graphical glitches either. I don’t know what it is about diminutive characters making their way through levels intended for larger individuals that makes for such great level design in a platformer. Leading to some really good level design. So rather than exploring everything Haven City has to offer, you are instead getting into it’s little nooks and crannies. The game takes full advantage of the fact that you are playing as Daxter and looking at the world from his prospective. The levels are super detailed and pretty varied and though they are smaller than they were in Jak 2, you never really notice because of how everything is designed. This game looks fantastic and is about on par with it’s PS2 counterparts.

If Daxter is a demonstration of anything, it’s what the PSP was capable of.
